Vanity Unfair at Gallery at 94 in London

Gallery at 94 is a new contemporary art gallery in Central London. It was launched in October 2008 with the aim of unearthing the next generation of artistic talent and ever since it has attracted controversial, up-and-coming artists. So far it has exhibited three shows entitled “In Between Dreams”, “It's Art.... Bitch” and “Curatus – Curating the Soul”, and plans to show 12 exhibitions each year.

Wayne Marc Godfrey, the managing director of the gallery, said “It's great to be able to help exhibit rising British and international artists. Our philosophy is to find and nurture the next generation of artists and hopefully help make the stars of tomorrow."

Now The Gallery at 94 is announcing the launch of its next exhibition entitled “Vanity Unfair” featuring work by German graffiti artist Maximillian Wiedemann, which will run from 13 February until 29 March. It has been described as “an exclusive appreciation of irony through the eyes of artistic vision” and “explores the dependent relationship between pop culture, media and consumerism”. There are twenty pictures on show, half of which are spray painted covers of Vogue and Vanity Fair, with sizes varying from 90 by 70cm to 1.2 by 1.5m.

With a good portion of sarcasm Maximillian, who lives and works in West London, takes the simplicity of street art and makes it more appealing on a modern level. Quotes including ‘Closer to God in Heels’, ‘Where did all the size 0’s go?’ and ‘The better you look, the more you see’ underline his witty sense of humour and are sure to put a smile on the faces of even the most hardened of fashionistas!
