National Geographic 'Dolomites' photo exhibition at Verlagshaus Gruner + Jahr, Hamburg

In June 2009, the Dolomites were introduced to the UNCESO global cultural heritage list for their 'unique monumental beauty'.

If you happen to be unfamiliar with the mountain range belonging to the Southern Talkalps or want to experience one of their many trekking routes, you will not only discover one of the most noble mountain panoramas, but a fascinating walk through the earth's history. The rough summits of the Dolomites came into existence as early as 230 million years ago.

Photographer Georg Tappeiner picked up his camera and ventured forth on the trail of the steep mountain slopes, green valleys and sombre forests and returned with impressive pictures of this archaic natural landscape.
