Anonymous - Walter Van Beirendonck's usual colourful commentary on Autumn Winter 12/13

We have already mentioned a few times that menswear is becoming increasingly confident and daring. However, it seems that the target group of 14-49 year olds is beginning to internalise this trend as well. It’s no secret that Walter Van Beirendonck tends to mock stout fashion critics and their devoted followers.

His A/W 2012 / 2013 menswear collection once again leaves his competitors looking decidedly void of colour. Born in 1957 in Brecht, Belgium, the designer - unlike many other so-called creatives in the fashion industry – not only dares to open up the box of wonders, but also shakes it up and empties the contents out over his creations.

His 'fashion' confronts the modern (hu)man and his pathetic sense of self identity, not a pleasant thought to most, that is, if they have the time to spare a thought and aren’t too over encumbered with thinking about themselves in the first place. It seems that it is still easier to follow the black & white worlds of newspapers, magazines and journalists who thrive on this distinctively diachronic opinionated approach...

The logical consequence: Walter has his models wearing masks. A scandal to some – but most certainly a great laugh for the designer himself.
