Embassy of Dreams : Must love Death. And Andreas Schaap.

Following its release in Germany, Austria and Switzerland, Andreas Schaap’s English language horror comedy ‘Must Love Death’ is showing at cinemas in Canada, Australia and Indonesia.

Dread Central described the film as "One of the best first directorial efforts in the contemporary horror genre". It was met with international acclaim last year thanks to its innovative mixture of romantic comedy and horror film.

Before the success of ‘Must Love Death’, which was presented with various awards in Canada and the USA, Andreas had also won several awards for his short films such as ‘Nichts Geht Mehr’ and ‘Die schwarze Kolonne’.

He was repeatedly awarded for his distinct style, atmospheric visuals and a talent for working with actors.

His films have starred famous German actors such as Matthias Schweighöfer, Nora Tschirner, Hannah Herzsprung, Anna Maria Mühe and Tobias Schenke.

The director is currently working on an additional American comedy with the working title of ‘Granny is dead’, as well as German thriller ‘Nullpunkt’, which sees Nora Tschirner star in the leading role once more.

In his short film NULLPUNKT, students Daniel and Lenny seem to have found the path to absolute happiness: they follow a questionable theory that states ‘positive and negative powers and therefore happiness and sadness balance themselves out in life’. To set about realising the full potential of happiness, Daniel and Lenny confront each other with horrifically fate-changing scenarios in the hope that this will secure them a fair share of joy in life. Andreas, born 1980, studied Theatre Studies at the FU, Berlin from 2002 – 2003 and Film and Television Direction at HFF Potsdam from 2003 - 2009.
