The Puzzle of the Mysterious Mind - designer Markus Lupfer examines the extremities of consumption-related behavioural disorders
London-based German designer MARKUS LUPFER launched his label with an unconventional mix of materials and very refreshing marketing, and it took off like a rocket ship. For his resort 2012 collection he created – all without financial support mind you – the beautifully bizarre short film 'The Puzzle of the Mysterious Mind' with DJ and film-maker Tabitha Denholme as well as several other more or less famous friends.
The alter ego and Dr. Lupfer is Margo Stilley. The designer Gary Card is a loyal assistant who brings us closer to the rather disturbing cast. There is Valentine Fillol-Cordier, the introvert, Mary Charteris (aka the niece of Daphne Guinness) as 'Out of Focus', Sadie Frost is the asymmetrical, Irina Lazareanu is the globophobic and Florence Welch is 'The Horder'. Last but not least, Jan De Villeneuve and Liddie Holt are the 'The Monologists'. Great casting and very convincingly produced. We're sold.
Markus studied fashion design in Augsburg and Trier until he switched to the 'University of Westminster' in London in 1995. In 1997, he graduated with honours and his final collection was purchased by the 'Koh Samui' boutique in London.
In 1998, Lupfer launched his own label and established it both on national and international ground (including Japan, Russia, the middle-East and Europe). He would show his latest collections during London Fashion week until 2003. He designed for Mulberry and Cacharel. Since 1999, he has been designing collections for Topshop, Ruffo and the Cartoon Network as well as crating a bag collection for Clements Ribero. He worked as head of design for Spanish brand Armanda Basi from 2006 to 2009. In 2008, he was crowned 'Designer of the Year' in Spain and presented his own 'Markus Lupfer' collection for the first time at Berlin Fashion Week in 2009.
