2Agenten Galerie, Berlin: from small scale to large scale - enter illustrator Julia Pfaller's mysterious curiousity cabinet
In her ‘Panoptikum’ exhibition, Julia Pfaller presents the partly autobiographical, partly made-up pearls of an illustration career. A panopticon or curiosity cabinet presents the unusual objects the world has to offer and 2Agenten Galerie will present Julia Pfaller’s work in the same light. The curiosity show presents illustrations, collages, prints, painting, photographs and collected objects.
We telephone ambushed Julia Pfaller cycling on her way to the private view. What were her spontaneous thoughts on the exhibition? “Wonderful, surreal, and scary!” Particularly scary, as such a wide variety of diverse work has been realised over the past seven years. And all by one person. She also sees the exhibition as introspective, representing many illustrators who can look back on a dazzling body of work. What is she up to next? “The exhibition shows so many small formats, so now I am planning something large scale….” Unfortunately, we couldn’t squeeze any more out of her. But first, we would like to wish her a great opening and a full house.
Julia Pfaller (born in 1975, Bavaria) studied Graphic Design at Nürnberg Polytechnic College. In 2003, she started her illustration career in Berlin and founded the ‘Wallstreet One’ Gallery with Tina Berning, Sascha Bierl and Lulu. Her long-term “Bilderklub" project is practically legendary, a daily growing picture archive of experimental work by changing guest artists. We already secured our own real Pfallers, LULU's and Bernings at the first sales show…
Julia Pfaller now lives in Munich, where she works as an illustrator for Elle, Neon, Brand Eins, Vanity Fair, Die Zeit, Dwell, Washington Post, Scholz & Friends and Adidas. Since 2007, she has studied Fine Art at the Bildenden Künste Academy in the class of Peter Kogler.
Now all you need to do is get down to the illustration gallery and go see for yourselves. Those that can’t make it to Berlin in time can always make do with the exhibition catalogue.
