Peter Hamel created lively and very expressive portraits of people who are not usually the centre of attention for the 2012 calendar of software developer CONNEXT from Paderborn.

Connext staff visit their clients from the social and healthcare business on a daily basis, presenting, installing and teaching their Vivendi software solutions. Naturally, they also encounter the people for which the respective institutions cater for.

The Connext employees cannot help but be baffled over and over again by the positive attitude towards life that is tangible in the faces despite eventual disabilities, illnesses or issues caused by old age. Hence the idea to create a photography series that captures these brief moments of courage and present them in a calendar.

Peter Hamel blended into everyday life in the homes and workshops to capture what goes on in the various institutions taking care of the old as well as youth on his camera. The result is a series of very intense pictures, reflecting pure cheerfulness and joie de vivre as well as a sense of closeness to the people portrayed.
