Corbis : NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC picture archive in portfolio, simplified pricing model for rights managed images
Corbis has taken over the copyright management of high quality pictures for the National Geography Society. The new collections feature selected animal and nature photographs taken from the renowned National Geographic magazine, the National Geographic Traveller as well as the capacious archive of the National Geographic Society. Thousands of pictures are already available. The allocation of a grand total of 20,00 National Geographic photographs is planned to be complete by the end of 2010.
The National Geographic Magazine was released for the first time in 1888 and has managed to collect an all-embracing corpus of images from the fields of geography, archaeology and natural sciences. Corbis offers a worldwide exclusive access to the archive materials of this collection, reaching back to the year 1900.
Furthermore, Corbis will be offering pictures from the National Geographic Traveler, one of the most read travel magazines on the planet, featuring articles on places, cultures, personal anecdotes and photographs from all over the world.
“By adding the National Geographic pictures to our product portfolio, we were able to further improve our reputation as image manager of premium collections and institutions such as the Smithsonian Institute, the National Gallery London and the State Hermitage Museum and make our business one of the best providers of high quality pictures for creative business.”, says Edie Tobias, Vice President Media Products at Corbis.
Through the partnership with Thought Equity Motion, Corbis is able to offer a broad collection of film clips by National Geographic on CorbisMotion.com.
