GoSee presents : In their Youth, Early Portraits - Greg Gorman's fascination with youth - documented in 200 male photographs

“I don’t want to do another friggin celebrity book; I mean, I’ve done them (…) I’ve really enjoyed doing male portraiture; and I decided to do a project that expressed my infatuation with male beauty, especially in terms of youth,” set out celebrity photographer Greg Gorman.

Throughout his forty year career, he has clocked up red carpet mileage, and captured a whole galaxy of stars and starlets. From Al Pacino to Raquel Welch, Sharon Stone and John Travolta, to mention but a few.

His black and white photography is also prized by celebrities. Richard Gere once said: “Greg Gorman with his camera, is as Eric Clapton with his guitar. Comfortable and honest”.

Greg compiled a selection of 200 male photographs from his archive. Many of which are by now famous the world over, others are unseen treasures. Thus a wonderful portrait album was created, which deals with the fascination of youth.

Portrait subjects include early shots of Tom Cruise, Kevin Costner, Leonardo di Caprio zu Brad Pitt, Patrick Dempsey, Charlie Sexton, Rupert Everett and Johnny Depp.

The photographer writes in the introduction: “My photographs have often captured the sensuality that goes hand in hand with vulnerability. When the subject has an unawareness of the camera, he reveals an inward truth, that maybe he doesn’t even realize is coming forth in the pictures”.
