GoSee Tip : Marilyn Minter - tonguing behind glass at Regen Projects, Los Angeles

GoSee presents work by New York-based artist Marilyn Minter. In her first exhibition at Regen Projects, she presents a series of decadent paintings, photographs and her film ‘Green Pink Caviar’.

Marilyn is showing a series at Regen Projects II which she categorises as the ‘Mouth’ series. And quite rightly so – large format images present hungry tongues and juicy mouths indulging in what we can only assume are incredibly yummy and fruity substances

Regen Projects II also presents the Pam series. As the name already implies, Pam deals with the one and only Pamela Anderson. The work was first realised for Parkett magazine.

Her ‘Green Pink Caviar’ film is on show at Regen Projects and will run once every hour on two billboards on Sunset Boulevard for the duration of the exhibition.

Drawing upon the same subject matter depicted in the Mouth series, the video is a homage to the tongue and comes across as an erotic painting process with tongues. Curator Joshua Shrikey says:

"Minter shows us unruly bodies that cannot fit within our culture's carefully drawn lines: greedy, excessive bodies that ooze and leak and are marked by too much sweat, too much makeup, too much hair, too much grime. These works are about our private ruminations and self-scrutiny; they reveal bodies that, compared to the fantasies that bombard us daily, seem to be in a state of constant eruption." Marilyn was born in Shreveport, Louisiana. Her work is the subject of current solo exhibitions at the Contemporary Arts Center, Cincinnati, Ohio and at The Cannery in Murcia, Spain.
