Ralph Gibson, Nude - a GoSee book recommendation and exhibition in Paris

There are many "bare facts" to be found in the publication “Ralph Gibson, Nude. Beautiful bodies, interesting poses – a feast for the eyes for every admirer of the female form, and a tribute to Ralph's great predecessors such as Man Ray and Edward Weston.

In Ralph's words: “A photographer once said that beauty in women is endless. Perhaps it was I who said it. In fact, I remember distinctly having done so…and the thought persists to this day. We stare in the psychological mirror of the human body with a fascination that endures indefinitely. At least art history indicated this to be so. The Willendorf Venus is said to date from 25,000 BC…that is a old enough for me to believe in the subject. I love photographing women and could say that the form of the female body is absolute and perfect."

Born in Los Angeles, Ralph Gibson began his career as a photographer in the 50s, during his spell in the army. Later on, he studied at the San Francisco Art Institute. In succession, he assisted Dorothea Lange and Robert Frank before setting up on his own in New York.

The exhibition on the subject is currently on shown at Parisian gallery PHOTO4.
